The first half of 2024 saw around 3.6 million international tourists, who brought in more than R$20.9 billion, an all-time record for the period

Brazil ended the first half of 2024 with 3.6 million international tourists. Here, they spent around US$ 3.7 billion in the period, the best mark in history, according to data from the Central Bank (BC). This significant increase in the number of visitors not only boosts the national economy, but also contributes to the generation of jobs and income in various regions of the country. According to the Ministry of Tourism, the sector has proved to be resilient and expansive, offering a range of economic opportunities for Brazil.

In addition to generating wealth, tourism plays an important role in improving urban mobility. As the number of visitors increases, there is a growing need for improvements in transportation infrastructure, such as expanding airports, improving highways and implementing more efficient public transportation systems. These actions benefit not only tourists, but also local citizens, providing more efficient and safer mobility.

Among the actions developed by the Ministry of Tourism to strengthen the sector is the improvement of tourism infrastructure. In 2023, the MTur financed 510 projects, such as the renovation of waterfronts, the paving of roads and the construction of event centers, which received a federal investment of R$ 380 million. In the six months of this year, 225 projects have already received R$ 146.3 million from MTur.

Another important aspect is the impact of tourism on public security. The presence of tourists requires an increase in security measures, which results in greater vigilance and policing in tourist areas. This not only provides a safer environment for visitors, but also for local residents, reducing crime rates and increasing the sense of security.

The population therefore benefits directly from these advances. Improvements in infrastructure and public safety, combined with the generation of jobs and income, result in an increased quality of life for Brazilians. Initiatives like these demonstrate that tourism, as well as being a source of wealth, is a catalyst for the sustainable and inclusive development of Brazilian cities.
